In Colorado, about half the homes have radon levels higher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recommended level. As the only Colorado state licensed radon measurement and mitigation experts in the Yampa Valley, choose BLU Environmental to test your home today.
Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil. Radon problems start to arise when radon gas enters your home and gets trapped. High levels of trapped radon can cause serious health issues, including lung cancer.
Radon gas travels from the surrounding soil into your home. It can seep directly through pores in concrete, but often enters through cracks in foundations, gaps near pipes, exposed crawlspaces and through your well water supply.
Radon testing is recommended for all homes in Colorado and is the only way to find out your home’s radon levels. A BLU Environmental radon test can be conducted while your residence or building is inhabited. Using a short term continuous monitor for 48-72 hours, we test for radon levels and produce results the same day our device is picked-up.
The most effective system is sub-slab depressurization in slab on grade homes, or sub-membrane depressurization in crawlspace homes. Sub-slab depressurization involves drilling a through the slab. An in-line radon fan depressurizes the soil beneath your slab and draws the radon gas and other soil gases through a vent pipe where it is dispersed safely outside the house. Sub-membrane depressurization involves laying a radon membrane out in the crawlspace and sealing it to the foundation walls. An in-line radon fan depressurizes the space below the membrane and draws the radon gas and other soil gases through a vent pip where it is dispersed safely outside the house.
Our radon mitigation systems are designed and installed in accordance with the latest EPA and ANSI/AARST standards. They are typically routed and mounted outside of the house and up to the roof line, but in some cases they can also be routed through the house and out the roof if you wish to minimize aesthetic impact. While installing, we also consider the energy consumption and noise of the system and size it only as large as it needs to be. You can expect it to consume around the same energy as a 60-90 watt lightbulb; sometimes less.
Post mitigation testing is included to ensure that the system is functioning as intended and we are 100% confident that our system will get your home below the EPA recommended action limit. If not, we will do what it takes to make that happen.
We get it...radon systems are important, but they're not very pretty. We offer systems designed and installed in accordance with the latest EPA and ANSI/AARST standards that also consider the aesthetics of your home.
Using color matching and noise reducing fan covers, we reduce the distracting and disruptive nature of radon mitigation systems while still protecting your indoor air quality from harmful radon gas.
